While it's possible to undergo surgical hair restoration without using non-surgical hair loss treatments, there are additional risks. Depending on your age and the agressive nature of your hair loss, a reputable hair restoration physician may decline performing surgery on you - especially if your hair loss is rapidly progressing with no signs of stopping. But for older men or for those with signs with mild recession and/or a family history of minimal baldness, performing hair transplant surgery on a patient who isn't taking non-surgical hair loss medication like Propecia (finasteride) and/or Rogaine (minoxidil) may be acceptable and rather successful.
